Nustar dropped the courtcase against the island council about the spatial development plan. When asked for a reaction Commissioner Koos Sneek wrote: “There is no point in it anymore. They have indicated that the expansion in the farm is complety off the table. Meanwhile, we have started the process to revoke the amendment of the zoning.” Statianews asked Nustar for a reaction, but Nustar has not reacted yet.

What is meant by “Meanwhile, we have started the process to revoke the amendment of the zoning.”
Revoke means Cancel, Withdraw. So… has the island council now withdrawn all positive action towards allowing Nustar their expansion in the Farm Area?
Is the definite Spatial Plan against further expansion of NuStar in the Farm Area?
In that case the most agreeable way – also with a view on the other court cases against the proposal for the revised spatial plan – would be, that the government withdraws its own plan.
It means that the destination of the land will not be “oilstorage” but will be just as before this amendmentzone was established. So a part of the land will be destined for “storage”, another part “nature” and a little part where a house stands will be destined “residential” just like in the original spatial plan. It will be “storage”, but it won’t be “oilstorage” anymore, so if Nustar ever wants to store oil there, they have to start up the entire process again.
I hope this is a victory?
Any amendment should betaken in the interest of the people, and not in the interest of of any particular establishment. The statement by the commissioner ” we have started the process to revoke the amendment to the zoning plan” which is a reaction to Nustar withdrawal from the project, shows clearly that the amendments to the zoning plan was innitiated, not with the interest of the people in mind but with other interest. I keep reiterating that a grave mistake has being made in the political process here on Statia. We will all see the result of it. Those who have ears and can hear, let them hear.
Mr. Baldal, some people are happy with this withdrawal because when there are no tanks in the farm, the airport is safer and there is no noise and smell and ugly tanks blocking the view for the inhabitants. Others might think this was a missed opportunity to give the economy a push. Now a Plan B has to be made for Statia’s economy and that is not easy.
