In his speech at the Carekine business summit in Amsterdam today Koos Sneek, commissioner of economic affairs of Statia finally publicly announced that BVI Airways is going to fly to and from St. Kitts this July.
He says this: “Since April a licence has been granted to AIR BVI, a regional carrier, to fly the route Statia-St. Kitts. St. Kitts is a hub to the UK and Canada. It is expected that the inaugural flight will be sometime in July. In the meantime the airline is exploring other routes such as Statia – Bonaire (with connection there to Amsterdam) and direct flights to Miami.”
He also mentions about talks with another airline Cape Air: “Also discussions are on-going with another airline, Cape Air, a well established US-base airline, to fly the route Statia-Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is also an important hub in the Caribbean with connecting flights globally.”

I am so happy to hear this news finely we can go to St Kitts with out going to SXM to fly LIAT that is so expensive my only wish is that we the people of Statia don’t have to deal with the one known fact the we always have to face here on the Island. so many things come to light and just as we think all is well we are put back in the dark i hope this don’t become one. thank you
for the good news
This is most welcoming news to finaly hear a date being mentioned for starting. i will now await the starting flight. We really needs other airlifts, other than St. Maarten. And certainly the price must be affordable to the people also. ( Caribbean Sun Airline Statia – San Juan viz was US$ 237 some 5yrs ago…)
The problem is most of the time, Statia people are crying out for alternatives to Winair but when those alternatives come, they do not use them. You still see winair going out full every day and the other business sooner or later has to pack up and leave. It makes me so angry to see. Finally a ferry came, and they were going out with like 10-15 people every trip. Still you hear the people complaining about how bad we are treated by winair. These people need to make up their minds, every opportunity to show Winair what we think of them, we leave fall by wayside.
